Founding Instructors Jeff Cree SOC Vice President of Technical Services, Band Pro Film & Digital – Burbank, California Jeff is recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in HD technology. Formerly the HDVS Acquisition Systems Specialist for Sony, Jeff is also an accomplished director of photography. Jeff is a sought-after speaker and instructor in the field of HD cinematography. Since his days at ABC network when news gathering first went electronic, Cree specialized in transitioning people from a film to an electronic environment as well as preparing those moving from traditional video to film-style production. www.bandpro.com Michael Bravin Vice President of Market Development, ARRI – Burbank, California Michael has over 30 years in the production business, most recently serving as Chief Technology Officer at Band Pro Film & Digital. In his 15 years with Band Pro, he was instrumental in expanding the market for HD technology for digital cinematography, including the recent introduction of Sony F23 and F35 cameras. While with Band Pro, he worked closely with Carl Zeiss in the development of the DigiPrime and DigiZoom cine lenses for 2/3" HD cameras. Prior to Band Pro, Michael was with Abekas Video Systems where he was involved in the transition from analog to digital tools for live television and the postproduction industry. He also previously served as General Manager for California Communications, Inc., a Hollywood film and video equipment rental, stage rental, and postproduction services company. He began his career in live production with NBC Sports. www.arridigital.com Vincent Gancie Director/Cameraman – Washington, DC Vincent is the executive director and co-founder of the workshops. He is also the owner of Gancie Television, which specializes in high definition documentary production. Vincent has over 30 years of experience as director/cameraman, in which he has traveled from rain forests and war zones to presidential palaces and great museums. He has won awards for his cinematography, as well as for his work as a producer and writer. Gancie Television was among the first in the United States to offer HD documentary camera crews. This early exposure to Sony’s CineAlta systems led to the creation of The Santa Fe HD Workshops with assistance from Jeff Cree in 1998. Senior Instructors Geoff Boyle http://www.cinematography.net/geoff/index.htm Mike Condon SOC Vice President, Digital Division, Clairmont Camera – Hollywood, California Mike has extensive production experience as both an AC and Camera Operator. After his hiring at Clairmont in 2000, he was given the opportunity to structure and manage the newly formed Digital Dept. Mike was key in the design and development of Clairmont’s Sony F900 modification program. These newly modified F900s fit the production needs of ‘film style’ shooting and launched Clairmont Camera as a key player in the HD rental world. What started with one office of HD equipment has now grown to five offices in the U.S. and Canada with over one hundred HD and state-of-the-art Digital Cinema cameras in inventory. Mike’s knowledge of these new tools for the cinematographer makes him an invaluable instructor for the Santa Fe Workshops. www.clairmont.com Brad Hughes HD Systems Integrator, Communications Engineering – Washington, DC Brad specializes in designing and constructing HD broadcast and post production facilities. His involvement in the early years of HD cameras and digital production, particularly with Sony’s Cine Alta, came through his ten years as Director of Engineering for Henninger Media, one of the Washington area’s largest and most influential production facilities. With his expertise in HD production and post production workflow, Brad played an integral role in converting Discovery Communication’s headquarters to HD and also in the installation of the numerous digital control rooms, theaters and studios of the Newseum, the incredible, technologically-advanced museum of news located near the White House. He has also worked with National Geographic Television, NASA, and BET. CEI’s client list includes Fox, ABC Disney and Hong Kong Telecom. www.commeng.com Jae mo Koo Professor of Cinematography, Kongju Communication Arts College – Seoul, Korea Professor Koo is an accomplished Director and Director of Photography in film, digital and 3D cinematography. Since attending one of the first Santa Fe HD Workshops, he has trained thousands of DP's, Camera Operators and ACs and maintains a strong association with The Korean Broadcasting Institute. Jae-mo’s international filmography includes the Chinese feature film Big Ear and the first Korean feature to be shot in 24p HD, Desire. In addition to HD music videos, commercials and documentaries, he has authored several books on HD production, including the comprehensive Digital High Definition Filmmaking. Jae-mo has designed and operates HD underwater workshops out of JeJu Island, Korea.
Maninder 'Indy' Saini Director of Photography & Digital Imaging Technician – Los Angeles, California http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1437369/ Mike Spodnik SOC Director of Photography – Los Angeles, California Mike is a veteran HD Cinematographer based in Los Angeles. Mike is the premier HD Director of Photography for Viacom’s Nickelodeon Channel, having shot over 140 episodes of HD television shows and Movies of the Week for shows such as Victorious, iCarly, Drake and Josh, and Zoey 101. He has shot numerous HD commercials for the US and international markets and several feature films, including Up Michigan, which was one of the first feature films shot in 24p HD. Mike is also an accomplished engineer and has worked with ARRI and the Sony Corporation of America as a camera consultant. He is an active member of the International Cinematographers Guild (Local 600 -IATSE) and The Society of Operating Cameramen. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0819285 Frank Van Vught Director of Photography – Paris, France & Munich, Germany Frank is a very field-experienced cinematographer based in Europe. He has shot over 100 cinema, tv-drama commercials and documentary projects. Very experienced with film stock and digital cinematography, he knows how to handle both ‘universes’ and also how to get them closer one the other. Frank headed the camera department of the Parisian Film School EICAR from 2000 – 2004 and is, besides his regular DoP activities, working for ARRI Digital as a Consulting DoP. Philippe Vié Co-Owner, Cam-a-lot – Amsterdam, The Netherlands Philippe is a HD/3D Specialist and Technical Consultant with over 20 years experience working on feature films, commercials, documentaries, music videos and special projects, including 3D and high-speed cinematography. Philippe is also the co-founder and co-owner of Cam-a-lot, the first company in Europe to focus completely on Digital Cinematography. Known for their early involvement in emerging technologies, Cam-a-lot was among the first European rental houses to own Sony’s F900 Cine Alta cameras and became one of the first to shoot a feature film in 25p. Cam-a-lot's idea to experiment with the Pro 35 Adaptor on 2/3-inch cameras led P&S Technik to develop the device for market, opening an entire new world of film-style creativity to digital cinematographers.Cam-a-lot has been conducting workshops on cameras and digital workflow for over ten years.
